TheraMotive Founder Dr. Lola Omishore Named to SEEN 50 by Tech:NYC and NYCEDC

When Representation Meets Innovation: Why This Recognition Matters

To be truly "SEEN" is more than just being noticed, it's about representation, resilience, and breaking barriers that have existed for far too long in healthcare and venture capital.

We're incredibly proud to announce that Dr. Lola Omishore, PT, DPT, OCS, ATC, TheraMotive's founder, a first-generation Nigerian-American, and healthcare innovator has been named one of New York's most inspiring founders in the SEEN 50 by Tech:NYC, Visible Hands, and the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC).

This isn't just an honor for Dr. Omishore or TheraMotive. It's recognition that diverse founders are solving real problems in innovative ways and that the future of healthcare depends on voices that have been historically excluded from the conversation.

The Harsh Reality: Why SEEN 50 Exists

Here's what most people don't know about startup funding in New York City, one of the world's largest innovation hubs:

In 2023, the funding landscape looked like this:

  • Women founders received only 19% of venture capital funding

  • Black founders secured less than 3% of VC funding

  • Latinx founders received less than 3% of VC funding

Let that sink in. In a city as diverse as New York, over 75% of venture capital goes to a narrow demographic. This isn't just unfair, it's bad for innovation. When only certain voices get funded, we miss solutions to problems that affect millions of people.

This is exactly why SEEN 50 matters.

What SEEN 50 Recognizes: Founders Reshaping NYC's Tech Landscape

The SEEN 50 initiative, led by Tech:NYC, Visible Hands, and NYCEDC, celebrates 50 startup leaders who are doing more than building companies, they're reshaping how technology serves communities.

The program provides:

  • Visibility for founders often overlooked by traditional VC networks

  • Connection to investors actively seeking diverse portfolio companies

  • Recognition that validates innovative approaches to real-world problems

  • Access to NYC's tech ecosystem and resources

Dr. Omishore's selection from hundreds of nominations affirms what we've always known: diverse backgrounds fuel innovation, and meaningful progress happens when new voices lead the way.

Dr. Lola Omishore's Journey: From Physical Therapist to Healthcare Innovator

Dr. Omishore's path to founding TheraMotive wasn't typical for a healthcare tech CEO and that's precisely the point.

As a Doctor of Physical Therapy with over 10 years of clinical experience, board certification in orthopedics, and background as a certified athletic trainer, she saw firsthand how the traditional healthcare system was failing patients:

The problems she witnessed daily:

  • Elderly patients missing appointments due to transportation barriers

  • Communities with no nearby physical therapy options

  • Insurance coverage that didn't matter if patients couldn't physically get to clinics

  • Recovery delayed or abandoned because healthcare wasn't accessible

As a first-generation Nigerian-American, Dr. Omishore also understood what it meant to navigate systems that weren't designed with diverse communities in mind. She didn't just see a business opportunity, she saw people in pain who deserved better.

So she built TheraMotive: mobile physical therapy clinics that bring hospital-quality care directly to underserved communities.
